Enfer Diagnostics and Andiatec partner to launch animal disease eradication technologies worldwide
NAAS, Ireland, June 19, 2007 Tests used throughout parts of Europe to successfully identify and eradicate diseases in animals will now be available worldwide. Officials from Enfer Diagnostics of Ireland and AnDiaTec of Germany announced their partnership to launch, “accurate, cost-effective diagnostics to improve the health and well-being of animals across the globe.” The announcement comes at the opening of today’s AVID symposium (Working Group for Veterinary Infection Diagnostics) in Stendal, Germany.
“This partnership represents a collaboration between international research teams and world-class animal diagnostics experts to deliver the most advanced tests and the most rigorous protocols that global animal disease eradication demands,” said Enfer Diagnostics President Cliff Cain.
Among the first tests to receive worldwide distribution is the patent-pending BoVir® developed by AnDiaTec for the detection of bovine viral diarrhea virus (BVDV). A state-of-the-art assay with a proprietary lysis buffer, BoVir® identifies and differentiates both persistent infection and transient infection, the two types of BVDV infection. Its effectiveness is further validated by European governmental reference labs for its ability to detect all 68 referenced strains of BVDV, including atypical European and American strains, such as HOBI and the H138 strains.
“BoVir® is highly sensitive and can detect viruses even within the first days of birth when maternal antibodies can mask the infection for up to 120 days,” said AnDiaTec developmental geneticist and company owner, Dr. Johannes Kehle.
BoVir® is currently under national government contract use by the countries of Austria, Switzerland, Italy, and German states.
Equally significant to herd management around the world, and now also available for global distribution is another development by AnDiaTec called ParaTub®. ParaTub® is an automated, high throughput test for the detection of Mycobacterium paratuberculosis, an incurable cattle infection with potentially devastating consequences on the milk production industry.
Both AnDiaTec innovations will be distributed by Enfer Diagnostics, which will also distribute additional animal diagnostics including a screening for bovine spongiform encephalopathy (BSE) developed by Enfer Scientific.
